SAGE Publishing Announces Exclusive Partnership with Developmental Psychology Scholar, Dr. Laura E. Berk

SAGE Publishing’s US College division today announces a new author-publisher partnership with Dr. Laura E. Berk, Distinguished Professor Emerita in the Department of Psychology at Illinois State University. SAGE now becomes the exclusive publisher of Berk’s best-selling developmental psychology titles, a body of work that has earned its place as an essential resource for countless instructors and students over many years.

“Laura Berk’s unique author voice, inclusive approach, and ability to make research accessible to students have established her as one of the most respected and trusted authors in higher education” notes Michele Sordi, Executive Vice President and Head of US College at SAGE. “SAGE’s stability, secured independence, and shared values make SAGE a special place for authors to partner with us in publishing innovative pedagogical content for generations to come.”

Berk has taught and researched child, adolescent, and lifespan development for more than three decades and has been a visiting scholar at Cornell University, UCLA, Stanford University, and the University of South Australia.

The following titles by Berk will be available from SAGE in eBook and print formats this summer in time for Fall 2022 classes:

  • Infants, Children, and Adolescents, Ninth Edition

  • Infants and Children: Prenatal through Middle Childhood, Ninth Edition

  • Development Through the Lifespan, Seventh Edition

  • Exploring Lifespan Development, Fourth Edition

SAGE and Berk are also working on revised editions starting with Infants, Children, and Adolescents 10th Edition which will come out in the second half of 2023. All new editions coming in 2023 and beyond will be available in the SAGE Vantage platform which enhances student engagement with course content and makes course set-up easy and straightforward for instructors.

“I am thrilled and impressed by SAGE’s commitment to supporting teaching and learning in the social and behavioral sciences,” Berk said, “and to our shared commitment to truly excellent writing, content development, and supporting pedagogy. Having these pieces come together so well is ideal, and extremely rare today.”

For two decades there has been one textbook I’ve turned to for my infant and child development courses, Laura Berk’s Infants and Children: Prenatal Through Middle Childhood,” said Professor Teresa Ashford of Oregon State University, a long-time adopter. “Her thorough, well-articulated, and easily digestible content has guided my students in their understanding of best practices, developmental domains, the role of culture, and current social and health issues facing young children and their families. I look forward to continuing to use her text in the years to come.”
